 Welcome Minimize

Welcome to the  MedArtMedic.org site created to help us coordinate efforts and communicate.

MedArtMedic.org is a group of medical artists who support a medical platoon (of 35 medics)  as part of the US 10th Mountain Division Descendants Club “Adopt-a-Platoon” program.

Our goal is to provide small comforts, entertainment, and the knowledge that fellow US citizens appreciate their efforts. A few Snacks, Occational letters, some good books, Mags--See below for ideas...

Please register if you are participating with this "Adopt-A-Platoon" program.

Our Last Active Platoon (updated 8_18_10) have gone HOME--Thank you for your support:

TF 4-31INF HHC Medical Platoon. Nicknamed the polar bears and they call their Aid Station the "Polar Bear Aid Station" because the Battalion mascot is a polar bear.

Our first platoon from  2005 was the 2-14 Infantry Golden Dragon Medical Platoon. (see  Capt. Aaron photo) They ALL came home safe and sound!

Capt Aaron wrote us:

"I can definitely advise and answer any questions you may have.  Not a problem!

We loved the letters from school kids when you guys sent them.  I would recommend not doing it more than a couple times, though.  Maybe around big holidays.  Many times, if there is too much paper (letters, etc) laying around the work place over there, the big dogs will make you clean it up or throw it away themselves.  Many of my Soldiers did hang the cards up in the rooms or other areas, though.  Letters are good. it's nice to know people are thinking about us from back home.

Magazines and books were always much appreciated!

Snack food is also always well received ... I would recommend always including at least a snack or two in each package, if possible.  Some good foods, if they haven't already requested are: sunflower seeds, beef jerky, granola bars, hard candies ....... just don't send chocolate or anything else that can melt.

I hope this helps " Capt. Aaron

Before Capt. Aaron we sponsored: US TF (task force) 1-87 IN Medical Platoon or the Summit Aid Station. Official call sign is "Lifeguard"  nicknamed the "Boneyard".  they wrote that they liked:

Healthy food, several Soldiers have lost the "beer weight" and want to keep it off. Raisins, dried cranberries and other berries have gone over well. Magazines, National Geographic, medical, automotive, fishing, cigar.
Hats, we can wear a civilian style hat, or even a silly hat, on Sundays. I have seen baseball caps, court jester hats, and even one with a propeller.
Some things that we would all appreciate are Medical Journals and updated texts. (Atlases) I can get some specifics from my doc later. I have several young Soldiers who do like to read study to keep their knowledge base up, but the Doctors texts are echelons above our education level. Also, soft toilet paper, white socks, it is hard to keep them clean here. Socks must be over the ankle to mid calf in length, solid white with no stripes or logos. However, I have a few with a Champion logo right near the top so I just roll the sock down enough to cover it. Gatorade packets go over very well, especially in the summer months. The weather is actully very comfortable here. My wife is in San Antonio and it is much hotter there than it is here. We will have to compare temperatures in late July and August. As you will see from the list, we don't get many magazines here (Rick has covered) , and it is hard to keep up on Sports teams. If you can get the Colts-Patriots game onto a DVD several of us would enjoy that. We have fans of both teams. Television shows are impossible to follow here. The most popular ones are Scrubs, Heroes, Two and Half Men, and the Office. Oddly enough ER is not so popular, it may be two mature for my group.
Anything with your company logo would also be appreciated, there were several specific requests for coffee cups with lids (metal or plastic). We are allowed to wear civilian hats on Sundays, baseball caps would get used as well.
The wishlist also had:
Sports Videos,
Auto Traders
Coffee,  Filters
Compuer Mags
